Overview

Advanced Methods of Remote Sensing is a multidisciplinary graduate course at the National Technical University of Athens. Its aim is to familiarize students with Deep Learning and Computer Vision methods for Remote Sensing and Earth Observation data.

I have taught the course since 2022. It runs in the spring semester and carries 7.5 ECTS, listed as course 6631 in the Geoinformatics program.

The syllabus spans the full path from sensing to learning:

  • Earth Observation fundamentals and data acquisition systems
  • Multispectral and hyperspectral data
  • Thermal, radar, LiDAR, and SAR data
  • Standard Remote Sensing processing pipelines
  • Supervised classification
  • Neural network architectures, including convolutional networks
  • Object-based image analysis and practical applications

Students implement Remote Sensing pipelines and build software for visualizing and classifying multispectral data, working with PyTorch for Machine Learning analytics.
